Sony, Lenovo, Dell, and HP have not done the same. They prefer to turn a blind eye, keeping profits up and shareholders happy. But, all of them, Apple included, seek out cheap labor around the world to advance their profit lines. Better to keep your old PPC Mac and make it work for you.
